Day hospital
The hospital has a team that is specially trained to administer chemotherapy and other treatments to outpatients.
To ensure patients' comfort and privacy, access to the treatment are is restricted. The duration of the sessions varies from one case to another, ranging from 2 to 6 hours. During this time, patients are seated in an armchair and they can bring books or music (always with headphones) with them. The treatment room also has a TV.
Technical characteristics:
- 5 individual modules for administering treatments.
- Specialised nursing staff.
- Laminar flow cabinet for the preparation of treatments in Pharmacy.
Activities:
- Chemotherapy: the most widely-used type of treatment for cancer.
- Transfusions.
Non-cytostatic treatments:
- Intravenous: enzymes, corticosteroids, etc.
- Intramuscular: analgesics, antiemetics, etc.
- Subcutaneous: heparin, insulin, aranesp, eprex, etc.
- Non-scheduled procedures: dressings, central and peripheral IV care, cleaning of portacaths, etc.
