►On arrival at the clinic, you will be asked to give your personal details and show your healthcare card (if you have private health insurance). Your case will be assessed by the RAC service (reception, attendance and classification of patients) according to our triage system, so the order in which patients are seen does not always coincide exactly with the order of arrival.
►The doctor on call will carry out a thorough examination and, depending on your condition, tests will be requested and/or the corresponding specialist will be called. While waiting for the test results, the patient may be transferred to the observation bay, where he/she will also be visited by the designated specialist.
►We have a computer system that makes it possible to monitor the patient following his/her admission and at every stage from performing the necessary tests to drafting the discharge report or transferring him/her to the ward. There is a computer in every room that the patient passes through, making it possible to monitor every step of his/her time in our A&E department. Once a diagnosis has been obtained, the doctors will decide whether to discharge or admit the patient, depending on the case.
►The person accompanying the patient must give the patient's details in the main lobby. If you would like to have television and a telephone in the room, you will be asked for €30 deposit and you will be given the remote control for the television. To recover the unused part of the deposit, you must return the remote control to Reception.
►If you are admitted as a private patient, you will be asked for a deposit upon admission on account of any costs. You can pay in cash, by card (Visa, MasterCard, Amex) or by cheque. The patient and his/her relatives will be accompanied to the assigned room by a nursing assistant. Meanwhile, the doctor on call will already have requested certain diagnostic tests and will have called the necessary specialist depending on the condition. The specialist designated by the A&E doctor will be responsible for you during your stay in hospital.
Sometimes, and only at the discretion of the doctor on call, before you are taken up to your room you will be kept in observation in A&E until the specialist has assessed your condition.
►It is advisable for the patient to be accompanied if he/she is unable to look after him/herself. Should this not be possible, the staff on the ward will provide you with the contact details of specialised carers.
