This department is situated on the first floor of Clínica Vistahermosa, opposite the operating theatres.

It is made up of medical and nursing staff who follow all the technical rules that must be adhered to at blood banks. This involves ensuring that the daily work of the Transfusion Medicine Services is carried out correctly and also managing to solve problems that occur during transfusion.

►Clínica Vistahermosa is a pioneering centre in Autologous Transfusion. The patient visits the Clinic before the surgical procedure is performed to give blood, which will be stored for its subsequent transfusion if necessary.

The transfusion medicine department is responsible for determining blood groups and structurally related antigens (ABO, Rh and LW groups, phenotypes and others) and for applying these serological principles to the transfusion process.

The work of this department also involves identifying antibodies, performing direct antiglobulin tests and indirect antiglobulin tests and identifying them.

►Another of the latest techniques is Obtaining and Preparing Plasma Rich in Growth Factors. We are able to obtain plasma rich in tissue regeneration factors here in the hospital using a simple, repeatable method. This technique has a large range of clinical applications:

  • Oral and maxillofacial surgery and implantology
  • Maxillary fractures
  • Fractured limbs
  • Osteocartilaginous injuries
  • Arthroplasties
  • Preparation of bone grafts (autologous or from a bone bank)
  • Ulcer treatment
  • Aesthetic surgery
  • Reconstructive surgery
  • Refractive surgery (in the form of eyedrops)
  • Keratitis (in the form of eyedrops).
