Chest problems that we treat

Chest wall

Surgical correction of congenital deformities of the thorax that often cause considerable aesthetic defects.
We can successfully treat deformities such as pectus excavatum by placing a metal prosthesis behind the sternum using endoscopic surgery. Pectus carinatum can be treated by means of varying degrees of osteochondroplasty, which requires open surgery.
We treat thoracic injuries and their most common pleuropulmonary complications.
Diagnosis and treatment of tumours that affect the ribcage and soft parts of the chest wall, which often require the placement of prostheses and muscle flaps for reconstruction.

Pleural problems

Diagnosis of pleural effusions using biopsies taken by means of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery.
Drainage of different fluid collections that can occupy the pleural cavity: traumatic haemothorax, empyemas, pleural effusions in general and pneumothorax.
Also resection of primary pleural tumours such as pleural mesothelioma or solitary fibrous tumours.

Bronchopulmonary problems

Different types of pulmonary lesions requiring surgical treatment: congenital, inflammatory, pulmonary emphysema and tumour lesions. The latter include bronchopulmonary cancer and pulmonary metastases, which are some of the most common lesions where the best long-term results can be achieved with surgery.

Mediastinal problems

Diagnosis and removal of tumour lesions from the different mediastinal compartments are the most widely used surgical methods. Thoracoscopic thymectomy for the treatment of myasthenia gravis and thoracoscopic sympathectomy for the treatment of palmar hyperhidrosis also achieve good results.

Diaphragmatic problems

Lesions of different aetiology such as eventration, hernias, trauma and tumours often require surgical treatment.
